Effective Communication in English is a General English speaking course for students who wish to be able to converse in the English language with confidence and ease in a variety of contexts: in employment and social settings, everyday and travelling situations.

Classes are designed to improve English conversation skills of those students who already have some knowledge of the language. Students will increase their fluency in speaking English, expand their knowledge of vocabulary and common expressions, and improve their pronunciation actively participating in discussions, role-plays, and games.

The course is offered to students at the following levels:

• Advanced
• Intermediate
• Pre-Intermediate

Course fee

The fee includes materials and can be paid in installments

Spring semester: April – June
Fall semester: September-December
Winter semester: January – March

To applyfor the course, you first need to take the English language placement test, which also includes an interview.Registration for the interview is right after the test. Interviews are usually organized on the next working day after the test. During the interview a member of the English Language Center faculty will further assess your language skills, comment on your test result and offer you a course that suits your level of English and interests. Tests, interviews, and classes are held at 11 Skolas St., Riga.

·   You don’t need a test if:

• you have completed an RBS ELC course at Pre-Intermediate  level or above less than a  year before the course;
• you have been tested and placed at Lower-Intermediate or above  level less than a year before the course;

Certificate

Upon successful completion of the course each participant receives a certificate. The certificates are issued to those who:

• meet all course requirements,
• attend at least 75% of the classes.
